Today I took it pretty easy in the morning and then headed off to a belly dancing class since I will not be in town this weekend to go. Then I hurried home and had a bite to eat before going to my Graduate meeting. My graduate meeting was pretty good - they are actually having activities for us this semester (at least more than last semester - so it's a start!). Afterwards there was mingling and food.
We have a new professor with us this semester from NYU, Goldwyn. She seems quite nice. I also met the director of overseas programs at NYU, who is currently visiting - she is very nice, but doesn't speak any French. I also met a new junior studying this semester at NYU from Boston and a NYU teacher who has (apparently) been here the whole year, but not as a graduate professor. She is quite nice and we had fun chatting.
After the meeting, a number of us went off to BNF (la bibliothéque nationale française) for a special event. It was an interview with Vénus Khoury-Ghata, a francophone writer from Lebanon. It was very interesting and a number of passages from her books were read by Cécile, the NYU professor whose daughter I tutor. Afterwards I purchased one of Khoury-Ghata's books and she signed it!!!! I was very excited!!! I think that's the first time I've handed a book to an author and had it signed. I'm looking forward to reading it! It's called Le facteur des Abruzzes.
