Yesterday - NYU sent out an email that there were extra tickets to an undergrad outing. I went and picked one up.
And so, I ended up here....
at the Opera Garnier of Paris to watch the opera Cenerentola (aka Italian Cinderella).
From the moment I arrived, an ecstatic grin was glued to my face. I had no idea what a treat I was in for. The Opera Garnier is breathtaking --> I'm having trouble describing it; I'll let my photos do the talking.. http://flickr.com/gp/76555621@N02/040yd8/
The opera itself was wonderful. The Opera Garnier has a few extra technological improvements, whilst the opera was in Italian, I understood everything thanks to the electronic subtitle display above the scene. Also, it literally rained on stage during the storm - the stage had to have the water swept off! This version of Cinderella has a few added twists. Notably that the prince and his valet switch places and Cinderella refuses the "prince" because she is in love with his valet. Also, the fairy godmother is replaced by the Prince's advisor who dresses up as a beggar and helps Cinderella because she was kind and generous to him, unlike her vain and capricious sisters who tried to chase the beggar away and berated Cinderella for her generosity.
It was a grand evening out.
Those photos are absolutely phenomenal!! I feel that I would have had my jaw on the floor the entire time. So happy to hear of your adventures! <3
