Provins – Friday, October 5th

 SCHOOL TRIP!!!  http://www.flickr.com/photos/76555621@N02/sets/72157631699922123/

Friday was our “welcome to school everyone!” trip.  We went to Provins, a medieval town.  The busses left from the metro stop Nation so I walked over and wandered until I found a bunch of lost undergrads – No one knew exactly where the busses would be at since Nation is a giant roundabout.  It worked out of course and we headed off.  Only 5 grad students, including myself went on the trip.

It was a fun day.  First we had a tour, in French, around the important points of the city – the wall, the fort, the church, the ancient commerce areas.  Provins was a huge trade-hub and very innovative for it’s time.  Its entry gates had drawbridges, portcullises, and solid doors to make sure there was no unwanted or forced entry (like the entries into some banks today).

After the tour was lunch – snacks, an appetizer, a main course, a cheese course, and of course there was dessert!  Lunch took about two hours and we all had a great time talking and indulging in the great food!

Then it was off to “les Aigles des Remparts”.  This was quite the show about medieval falconry with a touch of horses and wolves!  I took tons of pictures!  I particularly liked the little owls.

When I got back to my place, I spent the evening relaxing!  Homework could wait a little… maybe… :-P
