A basic day - Tuesday, Nov. 29th
Not too much to report for today. I took the morning easy and then went off to the post office to send a few things off – I’ve discovered that the post office is the same distance from my place as the nearest mailbox I’ve found… So I think I’ll just head off to the post office every time I want to mail a letter from Freyming-Merlebach.
My main class of the day was a bit tough and discouraging. I’m considering flatly refusing to speak to the students in French to help them… but I don’t know if they are motivated enough to work to the answers themselves with me explaining and acting out in English… Seniors in high school aren’t always the most eager students. We’ll see how it goes.
One Class Done – Wednesday, Nov. 30th
Today was my last class of French Linguistics. Not too much to report there, other than the Chinese girl I sat next to was VERY talkative and VERY touchy (think of small person hugging your arm – when you’ve just barely met). She was rather nice and it must be tough to be in France for school for FIVE years!
I discovered today that there is NO fabric store in Metz. That was disappointing. I’ll have to take a peek at Saarbrücken sometime and see if I have any luck there.
Floundering – Thursday, Dec. 1st
So… I got up, went to breakfast, started hard-boiling my eggs for lunch, got my lunch all made, discovered I was running late, grabbed everything, and ran outside to catch my ride to the middle school. And waited… sure everyone in France runs late, but Michael has a tendency to cut it close to start with, so after about 5 minutes – I was worried. We normally arrive about 3 or 4 minutes before class starts. I didn’t want to go inside to grab my phone (which I normally don’t need at school – and it’d be bad if I forgot to turn the ring off for class) in case he came right then. Well… after 10 minutes of waiting, I risked it and hurried through the three locked gates/doors back to my room. And what do you know? While I was fast asleep last night, at 11pm, Michael texted me that he was sick and not going to work. This in turn meant – that I wasn’t going to work.
This left me a little lost – sure having a day off can be great – but I didn’t have any plans. Overall I think it has turned out alright. I took care of a few things I needed to work on in the next week or so and did my laundry early (which was a good things since when I got there I discovered I had forgot the detergent! and had to come back to get it – it’s only a 10 or 15 minute walk (each way), but still!). I met another nice lady at the laundry mat and we chatted a little. She thought I was 3 years younger than I am – normally everyone goes older, so that was amusing.
