Thionville and Luxembourg Weekend – Saturday, Dec. 3rd and Sunday, Dec. 4th

Friday night I got to Thionville without a problem, but had a little trouble finding Flo’s apartment. Week old verbal directions can be a bit hard to follow if you don’t remember them clearly… Once I was situated in the apartment, I went off and got some groceries so I could do my breakfasts and dinners in the apartment rather than having to go out to eat.

Saturday

I woke up… and knew I was sick – stuffy nose and sore throat… I took the morning easy and started to feel better and then braced myself for Luxembourg, which turned out to be cold, rainy and windy – These three elements should not be mixed, two at a time is plenty! I walked around a little and saw the downtown Christmas market and looked at the old foundations of the city, but that was about it. I stopped in a Mexican restaurant for lunch – my first Mexican food since I got here (it isn’t very common here). I ended up catching a train back to Thionville an hour and half earlier than planned, but I was rather tired.

Once I was back in Thionville, I took it pretty easy. I needed one last thing for making my dinner and strolled by the Thionville Christmas market. I was pretty excited I had a Cockerel a little bigger than my fist to cook for dinner with carrots and potatoes. When I was all ready to start cooking – I realized that I had to empty out the body cavity… So I youtubed how to do that (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVsgjPzA-BA) – I decided I was not brave enough and instead just cut off the legs, wings and chunks of breast meat… Since it was just for me and only for one night – I didn’t need to have leftovers. Dinner was quite good. Here is what I had…!

My appetizer: Quiche Lorraine

Dinner: Cockerel with potatoes and carrots

Dessert: Gingerbread (?) Rocking Horse

During my cooking and eating I skyped with my parents and then with Paula! It was quite nice!

Sunday

I was a bit slow since I wasn’t feeling the best, but I got everything cleaned up and packed so I could head off to the train station to head back to Freyming-Merlebach. Everything seemed to go fine there. When I got back, I told Francoise that I was sick, and she felt my forehead and said I had a fever… I spent the whole day lounging about and not doing much of anything.

  1. How was the Mexican food? I missed it a lot when I was in France. I'm impressed with your cooking! Looks delicious!
