1st Weekend

Oct. 1st

Had a bit of late morning, but a nice breakfast of pastries… I was at the breakfast table for over 2 hours – talking. Pierre (Francoise’s husband) varies between being very untalkative and talkative. This morning, he was the latter. I learned a lot about the university system in France. Once Florence came out for breakfast, we talked for a while as well. It was a nice way to spend the morning.

Afternoon was much of the same – just relaxing. I started looking for places to visit and trying to figure out what I should do during half of my vacation that starts… in about 3 weeks… I’m considering Brussels and Amsterdam, but it is just an idea. I went for a walk and was informed that I am “charmante” and “une belle femme” by guys I passed… And I got to talk with my parents on Skype!!

We had a birthday dinner for Flo (the birthday was actually Thursday I believe). We ate Foi Gras on toast, Confit de Carnard (duck), salad, cheese, and marble cake all with the foamiest champagne I have ever tasted. During dinner, we of course continued to talk a lot about a large variety of things just like at breakfast.

Oct. 2nd

Nothing to note really – other than I learned that France guarantees teachers a job, but then can place them wherever they want… or almost.
