Today was my first day at the collège in Petite Roselle, the other school I’m working at. Even though I’m only supposed to work there 4 hours a week, we did 5 this week so I could meet all the classes I might be working with there. It sort of works out since I think I’m only doing 7 of my 8 hours at LP Curie (my high school); however, I really do wonder if I should be counting the 6 hours I sat in the orientation as work or not…. Oh well.
All of the classes were about the same. I stood in front of the class and they asked me questions – my name, brothers and sisters, pets, favorite color/sports, music preferences, where I live (US and France), likes and dislikes, hobbies, etc.
Almost everyone also asked, “Have you seen a star?” My first thought is always… well duh! There are millions in the sky…. We can see them in America too!!! Then I realize that they mean a celebrity and I have to try to explain who Tapanga is…
Also, I am not the stereotypical American… No, I don’t eat MacDonalds; no, I don’t watch the Simpsons – I wasn’t allowed to when I was younger and I don’t like it at all now; no, I hate American Dad; I dislike South Park; I actually don’t watch a lot of tv.
Other great question, way better when I’m in Michael’s classes…
Q: Do you have a boyfriend?
A: Yes.
Followed by all the girls looking towards Michael with a “oh poor you” face…. It was hilarious for me. Then they’d ask for my boyfriend’s name too, but the best was their reaction to me not being single.
It was overall a pretty good day. Though it is way colder today and rained (while I was going to and coming back from doing laundry, of course). A note on doing laundry – I ran the dryer 3 times… and nothing is completely dry and most is significantly damp… I am currently using the only rope like item I have with me - a bungee cord - as a clothesline for my pj pants and pair of jeans.
