Today was a long day, which started off with a bad night of sleep. I was off to the train station at 7:30 like last week and in Metz by 8:30. I wandered a little and made sure to walk all the way through the park that I liked last week because I was told there was a lake on the other side – really just a part of the river that bows out. It wasn’t the most impressive, but would be perfect for jogs if only I lived in Metz... Next time I will try to visit the little church nearby, which is supposed to be one of the oldest churches in France.
I arrived very early to the first class I was checking out, Les Grandes Etapes Historiques des Littératures Européennes, 10-12. I was pretty lost for the majority of the 2 hour class, but it might get better after a class or two more. At least I wasn’t bored. After the class, I introduced myself to the professor and he said he wouldn’t mind at all if I sat in on the class sometimes. He seemed quite nice.
The second class was boring (2hrs of doodles). It was L’Approche au langage et des différentes langues, 1-3. It covered a number of things about how we know languages are related – similarities in words, similar myths, etc… a lot of common sense given at a painfully slow pace. I do not intend to return to that class.
The third class was the best. It is simply the Linguistique du français, 3-5. It had the same teacher as the second class, but he was WAY better in this one. During the break, I went up and introduced myself and he said he’d give me a list of what they’ve covered in the month of the class that I’ve missed. When I went back and sat down, a girl in the row in front of me started talking to me. It appeared she’d overheard something about me not being French – and wanted to talk to me because of that. She was very nice and thought my French was REALLY good.
So it looks like I’ll be in Metz every Wednesday from 8:30 to 17:45 at least… Those days are looking like long days… We’ll see how they go as the weather gets worse.
hope you have a lot of great days like today!
