What’s your favorite place? – Thursday, Oct. 13

Today I did my four hours at the middle school. I played a game where the students wrote their name on a scrap of paper and then secretly wrote their favorite place. I then put all of these (and my own) in my hat (the fabulous “I can be shoved in a bag and escape as good as new” hat). I would then pick them out one by one and read the favorite place. It was the student’s job to guess who wrote it. I would then ask the student a variety of questions – “why is it your favorite place?”; “what do you do there?”; “have you ever been there?”; etc. I was surprised at the number of “my room” or “my house” responses and at the fact that most of the students have never been to Paris. Jennifer, one of the English teachers, explained that they are all from very poor areas.

Other than that, I made a ppt about Halloween (with a special feature of the Dreifuerst kids and a second one of my Halloweens from college – Alice in Wonderland group, being the Ace of Clubs, and a pumpkin carving). I think it’s a stellar presentation. It even has a section of baby costumes and dog costumes! They were too cute to leave out!
