Back in Freyming-Merlebach

Back to school – Wednesday, Nov. 2nd

Today was much like a normal Wednesday, I went off to Metz University for my Wednesday classes. I was pretty tired from traveling and had some trouble understanding the French literature class, but the second class went fine. I finally found the University library and might start exploring it in the near future.

Dr. Seuss – Thursday, Nov. 3rd

I gave my Dr. Seuss presentation to the middle school kids. It seemed to go alright, some were more interested than others. I asked a lot of questions as we read it, like “Does he like the Nooth Grush?“ or “What is in the closet next to the Woset?” The students had to respond with complete sentences, so that took a lot of time. Jennifer, one of the teachers, commented that she thought I’ll make a great teacher because I’m so patient…

Nothing – Friday, Nov. 4th

None of the teachers at the high school had asked me to come to their class, so I really didn’t do anything this day. I mailed some letters and tried to organize my room, but nothing to note really. OH, in the evening, Françoise and I made mini “marble cakes;” marble cake is a bread/cake that is both plain and chocolate in a “marbled” fashion. I don’t really know how to explain it… But it was definitely fun to do a little baking.

Mini-Outing – Saturday, Nov. 5th

I took the morning easy, but then grabbed the bus to Saarbrücken around noon. I spent about 3 hours wandering around German stores. I picked up a few things that I needed at my dorm, but didn’t get anything that special. The only other thing I did in particular is I skyped with my parents for the first time in about 3 weeks, so that was nice.

Lazy day – Sunday, Nov. 6th

Today seems to be slipping through my fingers. I spent a half hour this morning making a presentation about Dana Vollmer… I have to present a person to one of the classes and I thought I might as well do it on someone I know! Other than that… I bought my tickets for my weekend trip and reserved my hostel – Thursday I’m off to Heidelberg for the weekend. I found a few German books for kids at Françoise’s house, so I might try to use one to beef up on my German before my little trip.

  1. Make sure you visit the castle in Heidelberg. I went there for my 21st bday and thought it was awesome. There are also some nice trails above the city if you want to hike. Of course this info is 30+ years old!
