Well… That’s different – Monday, Nov. 14th

My classes went well today – it’s odd how 4 hours doesn’t seem like much (probably cause I worked from 8am-10am and then 3pm-5pm….). I met some new classes who were very nice and I’ll be working with them until Christmas break – so it’s extra important that they are nice!

Today I went to find a doctor – to see about getting my migraine medicine while in France. Françoise had given me the name of her doctor, who she said is very nice, and drew directions for me. He’s not far, a ten minute walk, so that way if I get sick, he’ll be easy to find. So I found the him very easily…. And that’s when it got different…

I entered the building to find myself in a hallway. One door said “waiting room” and the other said “office.” Obviously, I knocked on the waiting room door and then opened it. It was literally a room with chairs… no reception. Obviously, the reception is in the office. NO! NO IT IS NOT!

Once again, I knocked on the office door to be polite and then slowly opened the door – to be greeted by a man yelling at me… I started to say that I was new here… and I think he was yelling (by yelling, I mean a very loud scolding voice you use for teenagers carousing on your lawn…) something about you don’t just enter buildings you don’t know. I said sorry a lot and he shut the office door…

So… I went back to the waiting room… and stood for a minute… then knocked on the door, that sure looked like it went to the same office, but I was very confused. He came back – once again angry to be bothered… This time I must of managed to convey that I was there to see him, not lost and entering random buildings and he huffily let me into his office…

After a minute, he was much nicer. In fact, he was extremely nice. I explained that I was from America and working here as an English assistant and just wanted to get my American prescriptions here, which he promptly wrote up for me… He didn’t as any questions AT ALL. I did have the medicine and original box with me, so that probably helped, but none of the normal questions.

As I was leaving, I apologized again for accidently entering and mentioned that the office is arranged differently in the US and he completely understood my apology and said that he had also misunderstood at the start too… Now I know… that I should go into the waiting room and sit down; he can hear the door from his office and will come and get me when he is ready…

I have to say that sure was something though! Doctors and their offices here sure are different!
