Well, the train in Bruges didn’t come, so I had to hop on a different one, but still missed my connection to Paris. This actually didn’t make any difference since I didn’t have many plans. I met up with Françoise once I made it to Paris without any problems.
Friday, I only met Françoise’s brother Pierre, had dinner, and took a gloriously hot shower. Pierre is a doctor and was having a very rough time at work because he has so many patients at the moment. He always seemed a little tired and hassled, but was very nice. It was amusing to talk with him because he used such a mixture of French and English with me. He lives in a nice apartment a little outside of the typical Paris boundary-line.
Saturday was a very relaxed day. Françoise and I ate with her daughter Emma and Emma’s boyfriend Cam (who is a lawyer). After breakfast we went an walked around the Jewelry district and looked in all the windows at the ornate jewelry. At night we went out in Pierre’s car and Françoise showed my “Paris at Night.” It was very interesting to see Paris from a car; we saw a lot of Paris lights and it was quite relaxing.
Sunday, we had lunch at Pierre’s apartment and were joined by Emma and by Sarah (Pierre’s 19 yr old daughter who is studying at the Sorbonne). After lunch, we got to see Sarah’s Paris studio apartment – I really liked it. It was just the right size for one person and I could see myself living in a little place like that for a year in Paris… Then we were off to Emma’s apartment to have some hot chocolate. I can’t really say much about her apartment since it’s in the process of being redone and will apparently be amazing when it’s finished.
Monday, Françoise and I headed out after lunch to visit two exhibitions that were showing in Paris, but at both of them, the lines wouldn’t have let us enter before closing time! Instead we walked towards the Louvre and visited l’Orangerie where Monet’s Les Nymphéas are displayed. We were near closing time, but still got to see most of the museum.
Tuesday, we headed back to Freyming-Merlebach. Overall, it was a very relaxing trip to Paris.
