Toussaint Vacation 1

Bruxelles – Friday, Oct 24th → Monday, Oct. 24th

After almost 5 hours on trains, I arrived in Brussels around 8pm. My only plan for the evening – find my hostel. I managed, but had to ask for directions at the beginning since my google map wasn’t very detailed…

Saturday I ….
1) Visited the Grand-Place (multiple times – it was my reference point for entering downtown). I lucked out and was pretty early in the morning, so there weren’t very many ppl there and I could take lots of pictures.
2) Found the Mannekin Pis (it is WAY smaller than expected – in fact there were many chocolate versions that were larger in the stores next to it).
3) Went in a number of churches.
4) Ate Moules et Frites (mussels and French Fries) in a very romantic restaurant. Since I was the first costumer of the day (it was noon and I was starving) they gave me a free drink of my choice – I tried a Juliper.
5) Sat in the Parc de Bruxelles after looking at the special Tintin car displays (it was the Tintin Premier and Steven Spielberg was even there).
6) Visited the Comic Book Museum, which was nice, but would have been better if I was familiar with European comics.
7) Ate dinner with another Assistant who happened to be staying in my dorm at the hostel. His name is Bill Butler and he’s from Alabama and is working near Tours right now.
8) Went to the Delirium Café with Bill. This is a tourist must and you have to try the Delirium Tremens as well. I was really happy to have met someone to go out with while I was there, I don’t think I would have braved the bar by myself!

Sunday I took it pretty easy and I …
1) Went to the daily flea market, which I actually found to be a little disappointing.
2) Went to the Palais de Justice since I was in the neighborhood.
3) Visited the Atomium, which was smaller than I expected, but next to some gorgeous parks!

Each morning I went to Pauls which is a French bakery and got some bread and/or pastries for breakfast and walking around town I took pictures of the cartoons drawn on many of the buildings!

Monday I got up late and headed off to the train station to go to my next destination…
