Metz and Saarbrucken with Eric – Wednesday, Dec. 21st through Friday, Dec. 23rd

Wednesday morning, Eric and I headed out of our little apartment in Montmartre and off to the train station for the next stage of our trip!

Around noon we arrived in Metz and checked into our giant hotel room (the biggest I’ve seen in Europe) and headed off to grab a bite to eat. Eric had one of his favorite discoveries on his trip – Magret du Carnard (duck). I will probably be returning to that particular restaurant in the future since everything was THAT good and the waiters were even nicer than normal! Then we went off to see the University where I go to classes every week, the Cathedral, and the Marché Couvert. The Cathedral is pretty impressive and Eric LOVED the covered market! It is really a fun place and it would be amazing to be able to go and grab something for dinner at one!

Thursday, we started our day off with the Christmas Market. I got to try the hot white wine – it was pretty good (I hadn’t liked the hot red wine at all); however, the grand discovery was the boulebardes(?). They have the “whipped-into-a-marshmallow-egg” on top of a waffle-cookie and all covered in chocolate. MMMMMMmmmm.

Next, we hopped on a train to Saarbrucken and hunted down our hotel before taking a stroll around town and stopping in a little café. Germany is a lot harder for me since my German is still VERY limited. We passed by the Christmas market at just the right time to see “Santa’s sleigh” overhead and hear Rudolf’s story in German on a loud speaker.

Friday, we did a little more visiting of the town and I got hot coco at the Christmas market and it came in a mug that I get to keep!!! It is an awesome mug! While in Germany we did a little shopping – we picked up a day backpack for our outings (and for my 1.5 day weekend trips) and we got me a sweater to help keep me nice and toasty here since the temperature is only going to go down!!!

Then we hopped on my bus that took us right to Françoise’s doorstep!
