Monday
1) I explained how to add sound to a ppt and then asked the student if he had any questions. His response was, “Math questions?” It was hard to not just stare at him… nothing we had discussed had anything to do with math (also this was all in French).
2) I mentioned to Dominique that I was off to do a run and she told me (I can’t believe no one else had told me earlier) that just on the other side of the school (where I’d never gone ‘cause it’s away from the town and I didn’t know there was anything over there) is a forest that is very nice to go running in. I, of course, headed right off in that direction. It was amazing. I ended up doing more of an extended walk with Jogging segments to re-heat myself. → If you would like a 360 degree rotation view – email me.
Tuesday
1) I tried my hand at a Mexican Salad… it turned out yummy, though not what I was expecting.
2) I had my first private tutoring session with three children whose father is a principal in a school near the middle school where I work. I left my dorm at 5pm and got back at midnight… It was a really nice time and the family is so friendly! I talked with the kids (Justine - age 11 (girl), Celia - age 14/15 (girl), Simon – age 16 (boy)) for a little less than 2 hours in “English.” They invited me to stay for dinner, to which I was not opposed. After dinner, I ended up talking with the parents (Josie and Denis) for a long time.
Wednesday
1) My German Literature class looks like it could be amazing. I’m the only “new” student – apparently the class is a continuation from the previous semester, but that just means I missed what ever topics they discussed then. The two hour “lecture” is actually going to be 1 hour of lecture and then 1 hour of discussion (which are normally separate). The lectures will be in French on German literature history and the discussions will be in German on the book we are going to be reading. I’m a little nervous about the German aspect, but it should be good for me!
2) I’m also taking a Linguistic Culture class with another American assistant, and I’m a little lost in it since I don’t have a linguistics background. It might be interesting though and it’s nice to have a friend there when all the other students are already grouped together.
3) For dinner I whipped up some stuffed tomatoes in tomato soup.
Thursday
1) Normal day, nothing to report.
Friday
1) I will be heading off to spend the weekend in Reims with another assistant later today. I’ll post more about the trip when I get back.
