Strasbourg – Friday, Jan. 27th through Sunday, Jan. 29th

Lauren and I went to Strasbourg over the weekend. On the train ride from Metz to Strasbourg, I taught her how to do macramé. If she decides she wants to learn to knit again (something she’s learned a number of times), I might reteach her how to do that since surprisingly I still remember… despite the fact that I have never finished a knitting project.

We wandered around Strasbourg a bit Friday night, just to see some of it as Lauren had never been before. We found a section that I hadn’t gone to in 2009 that was full of little restaurants that are very student friendly in their prices. We returned to eat in that area more than once!

Friday night, I convinced Lauren to visit Colmar with me the next morning. Colmar is a little town a 30 minute train ride away that I have heard is beautiful, but super small. It was amazing and not nearly as small as I had been told. It was so pretty and was full of bright colors, which made it seem not as cold out (sort of). We had a good time wandering around and looking at buildings, but after about two hours we were a little too cold and caught a train back to Strasbourg for lunch.

In Strasbourg, we did a lot of things I’ve done before – visited the Cathedral, wandered around town, and went and saw “la petite France” in Strasbourg. In la petite France, there was something very new… and amazing… Below is a photo of me and Strat in Strasbourg…

Once it starting getting dark, we went and saw a movie: Café de Flore. It was good, but sure hard to follow! It was one of those movies where you really have to talk about it later to understand and there are so many stories going on at once that you should see it multiple times to get everything.

Sunday, we hid in a breakfast café until it was about time to go and watch the mechanical clock in the church. It was SNOWING!!! Though you can’t really tell… Here I am in the snow!!!

And trying to catch a snowflake…

We were early since it was free on Sundays and we didn’t want to miss out if there were tons of people. Turns out, mass wasn’t finished yet – so we got to stand in the back and listen, which was interesting. I had to ask why there was a boy swinging a smoking lantern back and forth for so long – frankincense. Afterward that, we saw the clock and it wasn’t as cool as I remembered it being in 2009, but it was probably novel to me then.

We had some soup before heading off to the train. On the train, a group of people in their 30s sat in our booth and the one next to us and they were quite the group of joksters. It was amusing, but I’m sure it would be very painful to spend more than a few hours in their company.

In Metz, Lauren and I sat in a café and chatted since we both at least hour and a half waits for our next train. I took a cab back again and that was my weekend.
