The next morning we were on the train before 8am and in Paris before noon. Before our last train of the day, we stopped in a little place for lunch and ordered two Tartares de boeuf. The menu said they could be cooked to our liking, but the waiter didn’t ask…. And actually brought us plates of RAW ground beef… When I asked (very skeptically of the food) he said he would have it cooked. Great right? No – touching meat to a pan is not the same as cooked meat if it is still completely raw inside… We ended up just paying for the uneaten raw meat and running off to get on our train. Just before 4pm we arrived in Aix-en-Provence.
At the train station, I rented my little car!!! It was a Citroen C1. Soon we were on our way to our rental apartment and all checked in! We went off to the grocery store to grab a few things for breakfast. Then we were off to downtown to find a place to eat. We found a great restaurant and treated ourselves to a fancy dinner since we both missed out on lunch.
The next day, we got a late start and then wandered around Aix-en-Provence, looking at the city, the stores, and the Christmas market. It was quite a relaxing day.
Wednesday after breakfast, Eric suggested that we go to Avignon. I had thought that’d be a good little day trip for us, but at an earlier starting time! We headed off just the same and got to Avignon with David’s handy-dandy GPS around 12:30 and we found parking thanks to Eric’s travel book! Our first order of business – find a place to eat lunch. Eric’s book recommended some nice little places, which ended up being closed, but we found a cute little place in a different area of town. After lunch, we headed off to see the town and the Pont d’Avignon. We climbed up into a cute little park that had a great view of the town and went all the way out onto the little famous broken bridge. It was really beautiful there. We had a great time.
It was getting a little late and was dark, so we headed back to our apartment. We did better on the drive back at seeing the speed limit signs – so I could drive a little fast than I did on the way there (I had been only faster than the trucks). Once we got back, I made a little jaunt to the grocery store and then made us a delicious little dinner.
Thursday, we just did some wandering around Aix-en-Provence and picked up a few things at the Christmas Market that Eric wanted to take home with him – boulebards, some presents for his family, a scarf or two for me…
Friday morning, we got all packed up and headed off to the train station. Thank goodness for road signs since the GPS didn’t have the train station in it!!! I returned our little car and it was back off to Paris for us!
